How to Keep Commercial Washrooms Clean and Fully Stocked

By Sam Dyer A clean washroom makes a big difference to how people feel about a business. Whether you manage an office, pub, restaurant, school or other commercial premises, a well-maintained washroom helps create a positive impression and provides a more comfortable environment for staff and visitors. But keeping washrooms clean involves more than giving the toilets a quick wipe. From tackling limescale and persistent odours to keeping soap dispensers topped up, a good washroom cleaning routine needs to cover several different tasks. In this guide, we'll look at how to keep commercial washrooms clean, fresh and fully stocked, along with the products and supplies that can make everyday maintenance easier. 1. Establish a Regular Washroom Cleaning Routine The key to maintaining a clean washroom is consistency. Waiting until dirt, limescale or unpleasant smells become noticeable can make cleaning more diff...

How to Remove Red Wine Stains from Carpet

Image
Red Wine Removal... in minutes By Anna Armstrong Hello, Anna here from Astral. Today I wanted to talk to you about some products, but importantly about stain removal. I wanted to introduce a new range that we have in stock right now currently. It is available in our tick tock shop and on our webshop (https://www.astralhygiene.co.uk/products?t=dew). It is the DEW range, an electolysed water range, with a shelf life of two years. It is entirely natural, approved by Allergy UK, which is important. It is not going to create any nasty symptoms, they are so so safe that it is no hazard warning signs on any of the products at all. A real revolution in terms of the kinds of products we have brought in here. I wanted to talk to you today particularly about stain removal and Superclean. This is a bottle of red wine, which I have just wantonly poured over the carpet. So we are going to use superclean to get rid of this red wine by just dabbing. Red wine has been spilled on your carpet, OMG ...

How to Dispose of Compostable Cups and Packaging

Image
What should I do with my compostable cup?  21st February 2024  | By Anna Armstrong You go to a cafe to buy your lunch, and the container looks like plastic, but the staff tell you it’s made from compostable materials. This is great news, and it makes you feel good right. This little cafe is supplying you with sustainable materials, which must be good for the environment - great. Unfortunatly it is a little more complex than that.  So the business owner is paying more than £20 a case extra for these containers (at the very least), and they think they are doing their bit for the environment, but they've not thought about the journey that cup will take and where it will end up. The harsh reality is that it will likely end up in land fill, where it will not compost, it will just leak methane like all the other rubbish in that big pile, because compostable packaging only composts in industrial composting sites provided by the council. Unfortunately, no town/city centres...

BS EN 1276 and Dish Sanitising: What to Check

Image
BS EN 1276 and Dish Sanitising: What to Check Choose a cleaning and disinfection process suitable for dishes and utensils, rather than relying on a standards number alone. What BS EN 1276 establishes BS EN 1276 is a laboratory suspension test of bactericidal activity. It is not a hard-surface-only test and does not establish activity against flu or other viruses. See the BSI standard description . Check the intended use The Food Standards Agency points businesses to disinfectants meeting BS EN 1276 or BS EN 13697. A test result does not make a product suitable for every application. Check that the manufacturer permits the intended use on dishes or utensils, and follow the stated dilution, temperature, contact time and rinsing instructions. Use a documented process Remove food debris and clean thoroughly. Then disinfect using an appropriate method and allow the required contact time. Follow any rinsing and drying instructions. A commercial dishwasher must be operated and maintained acco...

NHS Pressures and Hygiene: An Archived 2024 Perspective

Image
By Anna Armstrong Recent NHS publications have advised that Doctors are warning that winter viruses are going up in case numbers, there is increased pressure on an under staffed NHS, and people are getting sicker for longer, meaning that they are staying in hospital for longer taking up valuable resources. So what is going on? These factors are also coupled with the problem we have as a country with the generational spacing. According to the Office for National Statistics the number of people in their 70s in the UK has increased from 4 million to 5 million between 1990 and 2016. We undoubtedly have an aging population, with 13.9 million of our 67 million UK population ranging from 57 to 75 years old. (Statista.com).   These elderly patients from both the baby boomer and veteran generations are spending more time in the NHS than any other generation, and things are set to get worst as 24.4% of our current UK Population is...

Avian Flu and Biosecurity: An Archived 2023 Overview

Image
By Yewan Armstrong What is avian flu Avian flu, or bird flu, affects poultry and wild birds. As with other viruses, there are lots of different strains, most of which cause no or few signs of disease in infected wild birds. By contrast, the current outbreak is of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), which can cause severe disease and high mortality. This current strain has been devastating our wild bird populations in the UK since November 2021. It originated in poultry operations in China in 1996. How bird flu is transmitted Bird flu mostly spreads from bird to bird through direct or indirect contact with infected saliva, nasal secretions or droppings, as well as through predation. There are several ways by which the disease is spread, including by contaminated poultry, their excretions and secretions and contaminated objects. Once established in wild birds it can spread around the world as birds migrate across continents.  Recent o...

Sebo Vacuum Cleaners for Commercial Cleaning

Image
By Astral Hygiene SEBO History Yesterday SEBO:   SEMIGEWERBLICHE   BODENPFLEGEGERATE translated means; "Semi-Commercial Floor Care", but more commonly it is recognised internationally as meaning "Quality". SEBO created the first ‘modern’ commercial upright vacuum cleaner in 1978. Indeed, they could be regarded as the template upon which most uprights are now based. SEBO introduced many features which are now common on vacuum cleaners, e.g. the integrated hose, direct-drive toothed belts and electrostatic micro filters. Light in weight, but durable and reliable, they rapidly became the world’s bestselling machines, a position SEBO still holds today. SEBO (UK) Ltd was formed in 1981 and has successfully grown to become a major player in the UK vacuum cleaner market. In 1991 SEBO started in the retail market with the SEBO automatic X1 upright. This machine introduced sensor-controlled brush height adjustment for ...
