Lets talk dirty.....  4th July 2022  | By Anna Armstrong   |  Cleaning Tips ,  Environmental Health ,  Hygiene ,  Sustainability ,  Coronovirus We often forget who we clean our homes for. For me it's not for the visitors who come across my door, it is for my family; and of course for myself. I'm easily annoyed by mess, and I find it harder to have clear and ordered thoughts in a very messy environment.  I find in an uncluttered environment, my thoughts flow more easily, and inspiration comes more readily than in an unordered environment. I find too much stimuli just clouds my ability to think and to compose my thoughts.  So which are the most dirty areas of your home....Lets talk dirty!  1. Dirt on the top of the cupboards........ This may sound like the last place you would look... but have you had a look on the top of your cupboards? How much dust is up there, and are there any insect corpses or anything undesirable up ther...

What is living in your office water cooler?

What is living in your office water cooler?  24th May 2022  | By Anna Armstrong   |  Cleaning Tips ,  Hygiene ,  Sustainability ,  Coronovirus ,  Environmental Health In recent years, the water cooler was a place to spread your influence, to share ground breaking ideas and to exchange ideas .... as well as a good place to catch up on gossip. For a long time over the last two years the water cooler has lived a desolate and lonely life, being the single occupant in the office for months at a time.  Can we now say that as people are being encouraged back in to the office that the water cooler will be placed back in the esteemed position of a place to share moments of serendipity and pure unadulterated inspiration?  Well I think the water coolers' revered status is sadly on hold for the foreseeable future.  We are in the midst of trying to tentatively encourage people back in to the work place after the damage that was done follo...

Why Hand Washing Is So Important... Why is hand washing so important? Does it really have such an impact on your health?  10th March 2022  | By Rhea Crosbie   |  Cleaning Tips ,  Environmental Health ,  Hygiene ,  Coronovirus 80% of known diseases are passed on through hands and touch alone; hands are the main culprit for spreading bacteria and this is why hand washing is a useful habit to encourage from an early age. In this blog, I want to give you all a clear understanding of hand hygiene and, in detail, explain how not washing your hands correctly can be extremely dangerous. Surprisingly, what people believe to be a simple task, if not done properly, can be life threatening.   Four of the most common ways bacteria is spread is: From the hands, eyes, nose, and mouth to other people From hands to food From food to hands to food, through handling raw vegetables or meat for example From children to adults In all of these examples above, you...

What the professionals do with their blocked drains.....  8th February 2022  | By Anna Armstrong   |  Cleaning Tips ,  Environmental Health ,  Hygiene ,  Sustainability ,  Coronovirus From a customers point of view there is nothing more unappealing that going into a facility that needs more than a little maintenence. From overflowing sinks and toilets, to toilets that reek of urine due to a build up of uric acid, to damp walls and puddles one definately shouldn't be stepping in!  Winter actually magnifies the likelyhood of your drains becoming blocked, as typically your pipes become colder, meaning that kitchen oil and fat, and even body fat which will collect in your pipes solidify and block drains (bet you didn't know that)! So lets talk about each blockage and what you would use to ensure your water is free flowing. In your bathroom, showers and communal showers, sometimes; particluarly if your showers aren't maintained you will see...

Rolls Royce or Lacklustre?

Rolls Royce or Lacklustre?  5th May 2021  | By Anna Armstrong   |  Cleaning Tips ,  Coronovirus ,  Environmental Health ,  Hygiene Gyms and fitness centres attract people from all walks of life, and making close physical contact with the gym equipment is the name of the game right?  That is potentially why these centres have been delayed in reopening, and also why it is so very important to get the sanitisation of the centres 100% right. The staff, the personal trainers, the centre staff, the pool attendants all work in varied environments, going to public halls, conducting outdoor boot camps, doing 1:1 sessions in peoples’ houses; this means they are moving around differing environments, and have the potential to touch many shared surfaces. Support has been given in several research studies that gyms contain high amounts of germs, bacteria and viruses (Markley et al., 2012; Mukherjee et al., 2014).  Before COVID I would regularly go i...

Are you ready for Hygiene 2.0?  21st April 2021  | By Anna Armstrong   |  Coronovirus ,  Hygiene The virus that effectively shut down the world in 100 days, has taught us a great deal about Hygiene, and particularly how to manage it The virus that effectively shut down the world in 100 days, has taught us a great deal about Hygiene, and particularly how to manage it. It has also taught us that we need a new strategy, to manage the effects of any future pandemics or breakouts, to slow the spread down without having to shut everything down. Businesses, individuals; everyone has been through such a difficult and harrowing time over the last 12 months…. so now is the time to devise a plan to counter the effects of new virus outbreaks to allow us to manage it whilst still allowing businesses to function. In 2007, statistician Nassim Nicholas Taleb defined “Black Swan” as an event that “is an outlier,” as it lies outside the realm of regular expectations. Black...
